Eva Rutiri Named CCSD's 2010-2011 Teacher of the Year
  
In between innings at the Tuesday, May 10, 2011 Charleston RiverDogs game, West Ashley High School's (WAHS) Eva Rutiri was announced as the 2010- 2011 Teacher of the Year for Charleston County School District (CCSD).

Rutiri will serve as the vice-chair for CCSD's Teacher Forum and will represent the district during the State Teacher of the Year selection process.
At Tuesday's game, the other Teacher of the Year finalists were honored, including Braeden Kershner, the music teacher at C.E. Williams Middle School, who was named the runner-up.
 
Rutiri has been with the district for almost nine years. She has taught at WAHS since 2009 (becoming the second district-wide Teacher of the Year from the school in three years), after completing a seven-year tenure at Charlestowne Academy. She currently teaches computer applications, web design, and entrepreneurship.
Rutiri received a one-year lease for a brand new car provided by
Volvo of Charleston. This is the tenth year that the car dealership has provided this type of generous gift to the district winner. She was also honored with a gold signet ring donated by Jostens, a $500 savings bond donated by Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union, and a print from Trident Technical College.
